My Nordic Moments

Mirja is a journalist and jazz musician deeply passionate about human rights, culture, and history. Driven by a strong curiosity about the world, she has traveled to over 40 countries, including many authoritarian regimes such as North Korea.​

Fascinated by life under dictatorship, Mirja shares compelling personal stories and insightful facts from her experiences as a public speaker. She has reported extensively on women’s rights in regions including Kosovo, where she also worked with women’s rights organizations and hosted a radio show.

Mirja has lived in South Korea, studying Korean at Kyung Hee University while working as a K-pop writer, and in Vietnam, where she worked as a singer. Her diverse background fuels a creative and critical voice that transcends borders and genres.

Born in the mining town of Gällivare in northern Sweden, Mirja takes pride in her cultural heritage and is rediscovering her roots. As a journalist deeply familiar with her region’s history and culture, she shares vivid and authentic stories from her childhood and life in the far north, bringing its unique spirit to life as a gifted storyteller.

Jimmi is a self-taught chef from Älvsbyn, near Piteå, with a natural gift for flavors and a unique way of crafting food. By day, he works as a Utility Groundworker. In the kitchen, however, he truly comes alive.

As a passionate grill master and drink master, Jimmi loves creating dishes and drinks that surprise and delight. His intuitive sense for balancing tastes and textures shows in every meal, reflecting not just skill but a genuine love for cooking.

In addition to his culinary talents, Jimmi has personally designed and built both their kitchen and outdoor patio with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, showcasing his unique eye for design. He is highly skilled in craftsmanship and has a particular expertise in preparing meat. 

Since their first meeting four years ago, Mirja’s recipes and influences from various cultures have blended with Jimmi’s craftsmanship and culinary skills, creating a unique fusion. Together, they share a passion for welcoming international guests with Swedish and northern Swedish flavors, inspired by local delicacies and traditions.
